Reflection on Being the First Recipient of a Doctoral Degree
I received my doctoral degree from the Department of Buddhism and Peace at the University of Global Peace during its inaugural graduation ceremony in the 2023/2024 academic year. My dissertation is entitled 'A Study of Buddhist Education in Pakokku from the Nineteenth Century to the Present', with a primary focus on its impact within the field of Buddhist literary and educational studies.
This achievement did not result from my efforts alone but was made possible by the university’s conducive academic environment, modern library facilities, and continuous guidance and support. I am especially grateful to my supervisors, Dr. Bhaddanta Paññinda and Dr. U Sann Myint, for their patient mentorship, as well as to the department for providing research methodologies and technical assistance that greatly contributed to the successful completion of this research.
This study represents a significant step toward addressing the needs within the field of Buddhist education. I believe it will contribute to the development of Theravāda Buddhist education in Myanmar. Following the attainment of this degree, I intend to continue my involvement in teaching and research and remain actively engaged in the field of education. I am also committed to consistently contributing to the enhancement of the university’s academic quality.
In conclusion, the University of Global Peace has demonstrated its academic maturity by producing its first doctoral graduate. I hope that this experience serves as an encouraging model for future generations of students.
Acknowledgments: I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the administration of the University of Global Peace, the archivist, the faculty members, my family members, and colleagues for their invaluable support in making this achievement possible.
